Thrash metal trailblazers Metallica tossed up a note on their official website today (via Joystiq) announcing the release date for Guitar Hero: Metallica, the upcoming themed spin-off of the dominant rhythm franchise. Mark your calendars, wannabe shredders; Guitar Hero: Metallica for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 drops March 29 here in the United States, with Wii, PS2, and overseas releases planned for early May.
While this game is definitely aimed squarely at Metallica fanatics -- much like Guitar Hero: Aerosmith before it -- there should still be a decent amount of content for those of us who've always found "Master of Puppets" just a tad overrated. Along with the 28 Metallica songs included on the disc, Guitar Hero: Metallica will also feature an estimated 20 tracks from musical acts that the band found inspirational over the years, including Queen, Bob Seger, Alice in Chains, and many others.
We'll have more on Guitar Hero: Metallica -- and with any luck, a complete setlist -- as we inch ever closer to the March release date. Try to keep your fingers limber in the meantime.

Dear Activision/Guitar Hero makers...I am 35 years old, husband, father of two...I am addicted to GH. Metallica is my favorite band of all time. PLEASE do not screw the game up by making it a "game". I have been reading that there is a plot, etc in the upcoming release in March. I dont have time to play a game...I want to rock out with my favorite music that I have been listening to for more than half of my life. Cheat codes and other hidden things...stick them up your ass...just let me plug in, turn it up and blast away.
