Inconsistent Drums

Hey,
I've had guitar hero world tour for about a year now and in the last few months my drums haven't been working properly. They will connect to the Xbox 360 no matter what, however, often the pads and cymbals will not work, but the buttons at the top will. After tried all the basic things that I can think of they still won't work and I'm forced to wait a few days until they will randomly work again. I have no idea why they could be doing this and I haven't seen anyone else having this problem. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them weather they are permanent or temporary. Thank you very much for your help. =D

P.S. My warranty has expired so that is not an option.
